Introduced to tennis at age seven, Cibulkova is the daughter of Katarina and Milan Cibulka. She is coached by Zeljko Krajan, and her fitness coach is Devan Vojnovic.  Admires Kim Clijsters. Favorite cities to play in are Bratislava, Paris and New York.
Reached No. 3 in the world as a junior player. Has dated both  and Jurgen Melzer. He favorite surfaces to play on are clay and hard courts. She speaks both English and Slovak and considers 9 to be her lucky number.
Dominika Cibulkova became the second woman from Slovakia to reach the semis of a Grand Slam when she advanced to that round at Roland Garros in 2009. She achieved a career-high ranking of No. 12 that year, when she also reached the fourth round of the Australian Open.
In 2008, she was a finalist in Amelia Island and Montreal.  represented Slovakia in the 2008 Olympics. (as of October 28, 2009)

Her foray into the tennis world began when she was seven years old, while growing up in Bratislava. Her parents are Katarina Cibulkova and Milan Cibulka. She is fluent in both Slovakian and English.

She turned professional in 2005, and competed on the ITF circuit. She won two tournaments – The Amarante in Portugal in 2005 and in 2006 won an event in her home town of Bratislava.

In 2007, Cibulkova made it to the 3rd round of the French Open, but lost to Svetlana Kuznetsova, and reached the 2nd round of the U.S. Open, but fell to Victoria Azarenka. She ended the year ranked No. 51.
2008 was filled with highlights for Cibulkova, most notably competing in the French Open and Wimbledon (where she lost in the first round for both events) and making it to the quarterfinals of the U.S. Open. See a full listing of her 2008 results here.

So far in 2009, she made it to the 4th round of the Australian Open but lost to Elena Dementieva. Thus far, her French Open play has seen her beat out Alona Bondarenko, Kirsten Flipkens, Gisela Dulko, Agnes Szavay and of course Maria Sharapova. She faces Dinara Safina on Thursday, her first Grand Slam semifinal.
